Hi, I’m Kyle, and I’m here to help people like you on their path to Overcoming Social Anxiety, and you’ve just taken your first step! If you have Social Anxiety, or feel that your Shyness gets in the way of you achieving what you want in life, then you’re in the right place.
I’m a Psychotherapist with over 15+ years experience helping people with Social Anxiety, and I’ve put this site together as a “one stop shop” where you can get up to date information, hear interviews with experts in the field, learn about the most recent science and access my unique online treatment program to overcome social anxiety.
What is Social Anxiety?
Social anxiety is the intense fear of social situations that causes a significant problem in your life. It tends to be triggered by situations that can be defined as either “social” (i.e. parties, lunch breaks, dates) or “performance” (work performance review, giving a speech or presentation, taking an exam). People who suffer from social anxiety tend to feel as if they will be scrutinised and judged negatively by others and that they will be humiliated or feel extremely embarrassed.
Sometimes the situation can be so anxiety provoking, that when in the situation the person feels intense anxiety, it can escalate to a full blown panic attack. People with social anxiety recognise that the anxiety or fear is irrational but feel powerless to stop it.
What Social Anxiety is NOT
Social anxiety isn’t just feeling shy, being introverted, feeling nervous about giving a speech, or having trouble talking to strangers. Social anxiety is a serious problem and while it can include these problems, for people who struggle with it their anxiety makes them avoid social situations and causes serious problems in their life.
